What is the ECO2 programme?

TOWARDS A CARBON-NEUTRAL tAMPERE

ECO2 – Eco-efficient Tampere 2020 implements the climate and energy objectives of the City of Tampere. The programme supports projects that promote a low-carbon and carbon-neutral urban structure.

Aims of the ECO2 programme:

  • To coordinate and support the implementation of the climate and energy objectives of the City of Tampere.
  • To promote cooperation between actors contributing to the city’s development to generate a low-carbon and carbon-neutral city structure.
  • To facilitate growth in the environment business, with particular emphasis on cleantech, energy conservation, renewable energy and eco-efficient building markets.
  • To become a forerunner in climate policy and participate in national and international networks to spread good practices.

 

TAMPERE’S CLIMATE GOALS

  1. Decrease emissions by more than 20% by the year 2020 (EU mayors’ Covenant)
  2. Become a climate policy forerunner, with a more than 40% per capita decrease in emissions by 2030 (Tampere Central Region climate strategy)
  3. Tampere Power Utility, the electricity company of city of Tampere to reduce the use of fossil fuels and increase the share of renewable energy to 80% by 2040.
